SMS Physical Therapy is a proud partner of the South Dade YMCA, but the physical therapy clinic is owned and operated separately from the YMCA.

Physical therapy is not included with your YMCA membership

Yes! SMS Physical Therapy is currently undergoing restructuring. We are honoring the physical therapy plans of care for all existing patients. However, at this time, we are only in-network with the following:

  • Medicare Part B
  • Cigna
  • Aetna
  • United Healthcare
  • Workers’ Compensation

No, I am sorry, we are not able to accept Medicare Advantage Plans at this time.

Copayments, co-insurances, deductibles, and the number of sessions per year are outlined in your healthcare insurance plans. SMS Physical Therapy will check your insurance benefits and notify you of your financial responsibility and the number of visits before your first appointment. However, we also encourage all patients to call their insurance companies/check their insurance websites to familiarize themselves with their benefits.

Medicare covers “medically necessary” physical therapy. Medicare covers $2,400 of PT services per year. You may exceed this amount if the Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) and your referring provider (MD, DO, Nurse Practitioner, Physician’s Assistant) determine that services are still medically necessary to meet functional goals.

Medicare requires patients to work toward improving their ability to perform functional activities with less pain. Some functional activities include walking, standing, sitting, going up and down stairs, getting up from a chair, reaching arms overhead, and bending down.

Medicare recipients may receive modalities such as hot packs, cold packs, electrical stimulation, and massage as part of their physical therapy treatment, but these should not be the primary focus of the treatment.
